A little bit about Mark Hatch Photography

I grew up in New York State with parents who are passionate about historic preservation and they exposed me to a lot of Architectural influences. Originally I thought I wanted  to get into Engineering and Solar Energy, but life has wound a different path. In 1986 I moved to Colorado to attend Colorado Mountain College for their Professional Photography Degree and for the most part have been here ever since.

My professional career began at a Photo Lab in Aspen as a technician and Assistant Manager. I was then fortunate to get a job as a Photo Assistant to Dave Marlow who has the largest commercial studio in the Aspen area. For almost 8 years, I participated in and learned a lot about the Photo business. The primary focus was on Commercial and Architectural Photography ranging from advertising photos for the Aspen Catalog (a biannual catalog of merchants, art dealers and service providers in the Aspen area) to numerous Architectural shoots for realtors, architects, interior designers and contractors culminating in being published in Architectural Digest, of which Dave is still a contributing photographer.

In 1998 I ventured out into the photographic world on my own. My primary focus has been on shooting Architectural Photography with a few commercial projects on the side. For a few years I had a business partner Rob Cloos (Hatch/Cloos Photography) but now I am on my own.

With the ever changing world of technology, the photo business has changed dramatically since I started over 25 years ago. As the digital revolution has affected so many things we do in our lives, in 2008 I started only shooting High Resolution Digital Photography. Even though the means of capturing a image may have changed, it still requires the skills of composition and lighting to create effective and dramatic image.

Over the Past 15 years I have shot images for clients such as:
  • Alpine Log Homes
  • Anne Grice Interiors
  • Aspen Land & Home
  • Audio Edge
  • Aspen Valley Harley Davidson
  • Burkholder Construction
  • Chris Chapman Leather Works
  • Crystal Glass Studio
  • Fiji Water
  • First Choice Properties
  • Glenwood Ford
  • Greenauer Design Group
  • Keelty Construction
  • Lang Design Group
  • Mtn. Valley Cabinetry
  • Palomino Barth Architects
  • Promotional Concepts
  • RMT Architects
  • Summit House Furniture
  • Wilderness Log Homes

I have always enjoyed the unique challenges each shot provides, whether they are spaces for public or private contemplation.
